Alex and Victoria buy a house, Big Fix, Perrin in town
Happy Memorial Day! I hope this weekend finds you relaxed and enjoying some much-needed downtime with friends and family.
Let's not bury the lede β the big news this week is that Alex and Victoria are buying a house! We are all very excited for them. The house is about a five-minute bike ride from ours, and is quite nice. You can find more details and pictures here. They should be closing in mid-June, and we're currently in a mad scramble to find moving boxes for them. π
In other news, Catherine and I headed out to Omak last week for The Big Fix. The event is organized by Greater Good Charities and Team Okanogan Animal Rescue, and Catherine and Kat headed over on Saturday to serve as area leaders. I followed on Thursday. In the mornings, I helped Catherine at the distribution center for donated food, litter, and supplies. Once the last customer had come through for the day, I shifted over to Kat's area and helped with Animal Recovery β the fun part was sitting with the dogs as they came out of anesthesia, the not-so-fun part was cleaning the cat carriers. Long days too: we started at 6:30 in the morning and didn't get home until after 9:30 at night. Sunday, we broke everything down and had the final load of supplies back to the storage unit by 1:00. This was the 5th Big Fix event, and a record 1,132 animals were processed.
While we were gone, Perrin came into town and spent a couple of days with Alex and Victoria β a great visit. She just finished up her sophomore year of college and is headed to Malibu, in Canada, for the summer. Her job is Harbor Master; she'll be co-leading the area and overseeing all watercraft. When we got home, Alex, Victoria, and Perrin were at the house, and they'd picked up a nice fish at Pike Place Market, which Victoria baked with salt. So good.
Perrin spent the night at our house, and on Monday, we did a beach walk from Carkeek Park to Shilshole. There was a β3.95-foot tide at 12:30, which gave us a much better sense of how deep things are around Meadow Point β I don't think I've ever been on the beach with such a big tide. Monday night, Perrin joined us on the boat for the STYC Ballard Cup race. We did pretty well, and it was awesome spending time with her β she is turning into such a wonderful adult. Tuesday morning was her flight, so I gave her a ride to the airport and saw her off for the rest of her summer adventure.
The rest of the week was low-key. Soup night on Tuesday was fun; it was good to have the Burkes back in town. Wednesday was the first night of the Solstice series. Friday, Catherine and I met up with Curt, Amy, and some other folks in Snohomish for dinner and a distillery tour, which was quite fun. This week coming up, we're going to catch a Mariners game, but other than that, it should be pretty quiet.
Love ya all,
Dan W

On the Tuesday Catherine was gone, nobody else was going to be at soup night, so we headed out for duck dodge. Alex is helming the J30 Mouse, so I took Victoria, Bec, and Scott out on Airborne.

Victoria is taking sailing lessons, and so far is enjoying it ;)

Dinner was fabulous, and Perrin, Catherine and me on the beach.

Lunch with Brian on Wednesday followed by a nice walk, and Perrin joining the crew for racing on Monday night.
