Race week 2026 - day 1 delivery to port Townsend.

Well, this is goin g to be the last race week, so I might as well try to capture as much of it as I can.

In its hey day in the late 90’s there were over 150 boats participating in this event. Now we are down to only 24 boats registered, and ten of them are J105’s.

This is a warm up for North Americans, and as such, it will be the first time that we are flting our brand new quantum sails, which I picked up and had measured on Tuesday afternoon. We are meeting the sailmaker in Bellingham 1pm on Friday to have him go through the boat, and show us how to get the most out of these sails.

Tuesday morning, I hauled the boat out and had the bottom pressure washed, so it is nice and smooth for the regatta, and that should help us go fast. So we ware fascinated to see how we will do this year compared to last year.

The rest of Tuesday was spent getting packed, and the boat loaded so that at 5:30 am on Wednesday Stefan and I could start heading north. Stefan is taking his boat up as the tender that we will sleep and cook on. The trip up was near perfect. Flat water, massive current with us, so we made excellent time Getting to Port townshend and made it here in time to get settled into our slips, and head into town to watch the England V. Argentina semi final World Cup match. At half time we headed back to the boats and watched the second half in a semi conscious nap state :).

After our naps, we headed into the Rose Theatre and saw Toy Story 5 (very cute movie) before heading out on a nice walk, ending up back at Sirens for a beer and to split one of their flat breads.

Today we are heading to Bellingham,. The weather forecast is for fair wind and current, but rain, so I am all dressed up for cold here in July.

More tomorrow.

All the years I’ve been coming to Port Townshend and I’ve never been to this lagoon by the main marina.

We found a really cool game shop, had a nice chat with the owner, and bought a game.

Dinner at Sirens.
