Portland Road Trip - Brew beer
Good evening!
Had a pretty good week this week. From helping Tim finish up replacing the motor in his truck, to sailing, to helping my friend Dave pick up some furniture from his folks in Portland to brewing beer for the upcoming pig roast.
First, Tim's truck. I went over on Monday, and we filled it with water and oil, did the prelube procedure to get it ready to start, and then installed the spark plugs. I had to bail after that, but on Wednesday, he turned the key, and it started right up on the first crank. Major milestone. 😄. Tim has had this truck since we got out of college, and has over 300,000 miles on it. I really appreciate understanding how cars work and how to work on them.
Speaking of vehicles, on Wednesday, Catherine and I put in our order for a slate pickup truck. We should get it sometime between Jan and March of 2027. We are pretty excited about this. It is a super simple, all-electric pickup truck. If you want to find out more, visit https://slate.auto.
Thursday morning, I got in the van, picked up my buddy Dave, and we headed down to Portland, where we picked up some furniture from his folks, as they are starting the process of downsizing. I dropped him off at his parents' place on Thursday, then headed out to hang with Dan Tedrow and his mom and kids. We started by watching Bryon play the final game of the Little League season, before heading to 14 Corners for some dinner and beer. I always enjoy the time I spend with Dan and his kids. And this time, I had the pleasure of meeting his mom as well. On Friday, I said my goodbyes in the morning and headed over to Dave's parents' place, where we loaded up the van, then headed into Portland proper to catch up with Chris, Dave's sister, at Powell's, before having a wonderful lunch. On the way out of town I decided that having to add air to the tire three times was probably a bad sign, so we pulled into the discount tire shop in Vancouver, and after a bit of a wait, they couldn't find anything wrong with the tire, but they did find a crack in the wheel that was leaking air. That was easily fixed by installing the spare tire. Now I have to find a new wheel to replace the cracked one.
I made it home from Portland just in time to catch up with Catherine, Alex and Victoria and have my portion of dinner before it got cold 😄
Today (Sunday) I got up early, and spent the entire day brewing four batches of beer for the pig roast in August. I filled the pot with water at 6:05 am, and I put the mop away at 10:30pm. My buddy Brian came over and helped for two of the batches, and that was very much appreciated.
